Overview
A MityDSP based design consists of three primary components:
The MItyDSP CPU Engine is an off the shelf module providing the CPU subsystem for the system. It is a complete CPU subsystem including the CPU, FPGA, Flash, and RAM. More information about the MityDSP CPU Engine, including the selection of off the shelf modules can be found here.
I/O Card
The I/O Card provides the connection between the MityDSP CPU Engine and external interfaces. It provides a site into which the CPU Engine plugs in, provides the physical layer for each external interface, adapts available power to those voltages required, and provides the mechanical integration with the remainder of the system (shape, connectors, mounting). The I/O Card is either a custom I/O card designed specifically for a particular application, or an off the shelf Development Kit board. Additional information about the I/O Card is located here.
Custom I/O Cards are developed at Critical Link rapidly through the use of our extensive library of interface core designs. These interface cores consist not only of the schematic hardware design for a particular interface, but also the FPGA logic and device driver software to support the interface. Interface cores that are available are described in the this section of our web site. This modular approach allows Critical Link to reduce project cost and schedule significantly by minimizing the amount of new design which must be performed since the design exercise consists in large part choosing from the selection of already available interfaces.
Application Software
Once married to an I/O Card, the system is ready for application software. The application software is written to interface to the outside interfaces through high level C++ API's that provide convenient access to each and every digital and analog interface in the system. The robust, feature rich C++ API's provide a solid foundation on which simple or complex applications can be built quickly and easily.
